Psychedelic assisted therapy is a new approach to mental health concerns and symptom relief.

Ketamine Assisted Therapy

What does Ketamine do?

Ketamine is proven to help people who have not been able to experience relief from mental health concerns via traditional prescription medicines. Ketamine is one of the safest and most widely used anesthetic medicines in the world. Since 2000 ketamine has been studied in controlled clinical settings in patients with severe depression who are unresponsive to other antidepressants and it's impressively effective. In several studies, more than half of the patients show a significant decrease in depression symptoms in just one day, and approximately 4 out of 5 went on to feel significant improvement.

Ketamine can be effective for:

  • depression (not just treatment resistant)

  • suicidality

  • anxiety

  • trauma

  • obsessive compulsive disorder

  • chronic pain

  • substance abuse

*There is a potential for ketamine to reduce or eliminate dependence on typical prescription mood management drugs. Talk to your current prescriber to help you determine if ketamine is a good option for you.

Ketamine therapy offers clients insights into their own healing through a psycho-spiritual process where the client can access their innate wisdom and find their unique path to personal growth and healing.

Ketamine acts as a tool to break-up or pause negative thought cycles, ruminating thoughts and other facets of the resting mind that take you away from the present moment and can lock your thoughts into negative loops.

Ketamine increases your Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNR), a function that increases during exercise, and can support your healing when it comes to mood disorders and depression.

Ketamine enhances interpersonal openness and helps you to engage more deeply in the therapy process and with yourself than possible with traditional therapy.

Ketamine is classified as a psychedelic, as the term means "mind manifesting," however it is not a classic hallucinogen like psilocybin, the compound found in psychedelic mushrooms, which also has many promising mental health benefits.

What does Ketamine Therapy look like?

Step 1: Schedule a consultation with Dr. Stemati. We will get to know each other, discuss your long-term goals, and see if Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is the right path for you. Ketamine Assisted Therapy won’t be a good fit if you are on Benzodiazepines or have a history of mania, disassociation, or certain personality disorders. If you’re on an SSRI or an SNRI, ketamine could be a good option for you to consider. Ultimately, the end goal of ketamine therapy is to help clients experience more manageable symptoms.

Step 2: Dr. Stemati follows a prescription process that takes the power of psychotropic medicine seriously. You will be provided a referral to one of her trusted nurse practitioners or psychiatrists in my network. You will then have a consultation with the prescriber and if the prescriber and you agree that ketamine is the right fit for you, you will be prescribed your ketamine in the form of an oral lozenge (if it is decided oral lozenges are best suited for your treatment). You will pick up your prescription from the pharmacy. This process is safe and legal.

Step 3: It is recommended that ketamine therapy be delivered in a series of, for example, 6 - 8 sessions, each lasting 2.5 hours.

We will work together to determine the number of sessions that is right for you. If you decide it feels right, there is an opportunity to create ceremonial medicine space that honors the psychospiritual component of psychedelic healing. Dr. Stemati includes this method to deepen the potential for not just emotional healing but spiritual healing as well. However, if ceremony and ritual are not aligned with your values and beliefs, this can look like however you and your provider would like.

Undergoing ketamine therapy with Dr. Stemati will require 3-6 prep sessions before beginning the series and integration follow-ups after each session.
